Ariana DeBose hosted “Saturday Night Live” on Jan. 15, opening by singing — and dancing to — songs from “West Side Story” with SNL cast member Kate McKinnon.

DeBose, who grew up in Raleigh and Wake Forest, won a Golden Globe last week for playing Anita in the new Steven Spielberg remake of the 1961 “West Side Story” film. She was also nominated for a Screen Actors Guild Award last week.

DeBose was kept busy during Saturday’s episode, which featured musical guest Bleachers.

In addition to the monologue, she appeared in several sketches, playing:

  • a city hall spokesperson/hype woman at a NYC Mayor Eric Adams’ (Chris Redd) press conference
  • a governess hired by a widower to teach his children
  • a pedestrian called in to play for the COVID-ravaged Sacramento Kings NBA team
  • a Longhorn Steakhouse kitchen worker in Texarkana on New Year’s Eve with a demanding boss (ler!)
  • Urkel’s drunk mom in a dramatic reimagining of the 90s sitcom “Family Matters”
  • one of two professors (again with McKinnon) speaking about their discovery of unknown fragments written by Greek poet Sappho
  • and the unlucky date of a loser at a winter formal

She was also in a “cut for time” digital short in which a rapper (Redd) performs a song with his entourage after signing a major deal.

If you missed any of that, or just want to relive the magic, watch the videos below.
