Two anchor/reporters at the Raleigh news station CBS 17 are leaving.

Joseph Holloway and Hayley Fixler, who both joined the station in 2021, announced the news on their social media platforms.

Here’s what Holloway and Fixler have planned for the future.

CBS 17’s Joseph Holloway leaves Raleigh for Iowa

Holloway’s last day as a CBS 17 anchor/reporter was July 28, and he is starting a new role as the “Good Morning Iowa” co-anchor and executive producer at WOI-TV in Des Moines, he shared in a Facebook post in late June.

“What a privilege it’ll be to not only anchor Monday through Friday but to also help lead and encourage our weekday morning team to serve Central Iowa well,” Holloway said.

The move will bring Holloway and his wife closer to their home states of Arkansas and Oklahoma, respectively, the journalist told The News & Observer in a Facebook message.

Before joining CBS 17, he worked as a reporter and fill-in anchor for nearly five years at the CBS affiliate in Tulsa, Oklahoma, according to his CBS 17 bio.

Holloway has a degree in journalism from the University of Arkansas. While in college, he freelanced for national sports outlets including CBS and ESPN.

“I am thankful for my time at CBS 17 and I know my former colleagues there will continue to serve central NC well!” Holloway told The N&O.

CBS 17’s Hayley Fixler exits station to be near family

Fixler is leaving CBS 17 on Wednesday Aug. 7, moving with her fiancé to get married and be closer to family, she wrote in a social media post on July 29.

“I have had the greatest privilege and honor of being invited into your homes each day to tell your stories, both the good and the bad,” Fixler wrote in the post. “Words cannot adequately express how much I’ve loved being a journalist in truly some of the most loving and caring communities.”

Before moving to the Triangle, Fixler was a reporter and fill-in anchor in the Triad at WGHP FOX 8, where she helped break news on a High Point University student’s hit list, according to her CBS 17 bio.

Fixler, who grew up in Maryland, earned a degree in broadcast journalism from the University of Maryland, College Park.

“I know there is a new, exciting chapter ahead and I can’t wait to be able to share it with all of you when the time comes,” she wrote in the Facebook post.

Fixler is “not done with TV,” she told The News & Observer in an email.

“My soon-to-be husband has helped me follow my dreams for years, and with our wedding a month away, it’s time for us to get settled in our new home and for him to get a chance to follow his dreams,” she told The N&O.
