Raleigh’s CBS 17 News will have a new anchor in the new year.

Greg Funderburg will be the station’s new weekend evening co-anchor and weekday reporter, CBS 17 announced in December. His first day will be Tuesday, Jan. 2.

“We’re excited to welcome a journalist with Greg’s background to CBS 17. His experience as an Anchor and Reporter will add to the depth of our storytelling and continue to enhance our Local News That Matters brand,” said news director Ed Trauschke in a press release.

Funderburg will join anchor/reporter Maggie Newland and meteorologist Lance Blocker on Saturday and Sunday evenings at 6/7 p.m. and 11 p.m.

Funderburg spent the past nine years in Chattanooga, Tennessee, as an anchor/reporter at WTVC. He produced a weekly segment called “Get Moving Monday,” which focused on fitness.

Before that, he worked in Greenville, South Carolina, and Columbus, Georgia, also as a reporter/editor.
