Longtime ABC11 sports reporter and anchor is leaving the station

Longtime ABC11 sports reporter and anchor Joe Mazur is leaving the station this month after more than 20 years there.

Rob Elmore, the station’s president and general manager, told The News & Observer that Mazur is joining his wife in Atlanta, where she has taken a new position. Mazur’s last day will come at the end of next week.

Elmore said the station is currently looking for replacements for Mazur and for reporter Tim Pulliam, who announced this week that he is leaving for a reporting job at ABC7 in Los Angeles.

Mazur joined WTVD in 2001, coming from KFOX in El Paso, Texas, where he was sports director and anchor. He also worked at KJCT in Grand Junction, Colorado.

Mazur is a native of Colorado and a graduate of Colorado State University.

ABC11 lost two other well-known sports reporters last year: Mark Armstrong left in May after 17 years at the station, and Bridget Condon left in September, after five years at the station.

Armstrong opened a WOW 1 Day Painting franchise and Condon is a reporter with the NFL Network.

Travon Miles joined ABC11 as a sports reporter and anchor in January this year, coming to the station from WMDT in Salisbury, Maryland.
