A major college football moment calls for major barbecue.
With ESPN’s College GameDay in town for the undefeated Duke Blue Devils facing the not undefeated Notre Dame Fighting Irish, a local Durham barbecue joint will be supplying the smoked meats.
Moe’s Original BBQ will be featured on College Game Day as the show’s official tailgate spread.
Here’s what you need to know about Moe’s.
▪ Moe’s Original BBQ opened in Durham in early 2020, turning the former Blu Seafood near Ninth Street into a barbecue joint.
▪ The Durham Moe’s is owned and operated by Mobley Estes and business partner Michael Roos. Despite this ACC clash in Durham, Estes is all about the SEC as a proud Ole Miss grad.
▪ There are five Moe’s locations in North Carolina and more than 50 spread out across the country. Most locations of the cue chain are in Alabama, where the brand was founded in 1988.
▪ Moe’s considers itself a rib joint and specializes in racks of smoked baby backs. There’s also pulled pork, brisket, smoked wings and smoked turkey breast.
▪ Moe’s is one of the few Triangle barbecue restaurants to offer Alabama white barbecue sauce, which can be controversial. Beyond the tomato and vinegar debate, this sauce is mayo-based. It’s best on chicken, but you’re on your own journey.
▪ For Saturday, Moe’s restaurant is running some food and drink specials, including a pound of wings for $10, draft beers for $5 and $3 Fireball shots
