Triangle restaurant gets ‘C’ grade for bugs & dirty knives: Sanitation scores (March 4)
The News & Observer publishes a weekly roundup of restaurant sanitation scores to keep you up-to-date on the health grades at Triangle dining spots.
Sanitation scores and their corresponding letter grades are used in North Carolina to assess restaurants’ adherence to rules and standards intended to mitigate and prevent the spread of food-borne illnesses.
You’ve likely seen sanitation grade cards at restaurants you’ve visited, and The N&O previously explained what those scores mean and how they’re calculated.
Here are sanitation scores in Triangle counties for the week of Feb. 25-March 3.
Wake County sanitation scores
The Wake County inspection management system shows that 156 restaurant inspections were completed Feb. 25-March 3.
Most restaurants received an A grade, or a score of at least 90%.
Two restaurants received a B grade, or a score of at least 80% but lower than 90%.
David’s Dumpling & Noodle Bar (1900 Hillsborough St. in Raleigh) received a score of 89% during an inspection on Tuesday, Feb. 25.
The restaurant was in violation of 11 standards.
Violations included a food handler seen using tissue and touching face then not washing hands before returning to duties, some containers of prepared foods stored under open wire shelving without covers and a food employee washing knives under running water then storing on drying pad as clean, with no sanitizing step.
Some violations were corrected during the inspection.
The restaurant previously scored 96% in August 2024 and 95.5% in April 2024.
Flavor Hills (319 Fayetteville St Suite 105 in Raleigh) received a score of 86.5% during an inspection on Wednesday, Feb. 26.
The restaurant was in violation of 19 standards.
Violations included multiple cutting boards at prep units found with soiled cut lines and staining, pink and black microbial film buildup found along the ice baffle of ice machine and multiple boxes of produce food items stored on the floor in the walk-in cooler and in the prep area.
Some violations were corrected during the inspection.
The restaurant previously scored 95.5% in August 2024 and 91.5% in March 2024.

Durham County sanitation scores
The Durham County inspection management system shows 46 restaurant inspections were completed Feb. 25-March 3.
Most restaurants received an A grade.
No restaurants received a B grade, but one received a C.
Dimsum Asian Bistro (5410 NC-55 Y in Durham) received a score of 77% during an inspection on Friday, Feb. 28.
The restaurant was in violation of 21 standards.
Violations included multiple knives stored as clean with visible debris on blade, gnats throughout the kitchen and raw meat stored above dumplings in flip top single door and raw meat stored above ice cream out of original packing in two-door freezer.
Some violations were corrected during the inspection.
The restaurant previously scored 90% in June 2024 and January 2024.

Orange County sanitation scores
The Orange County inspection management system shows that 32 restaurant inspections were completed Feb. 25-March 3.
All restaurants received an A grade.
