One of Raleigh’s biggest wine bars has closed after a decade of sips and pours.

The original location of Vita Vite plans to close next month on Hargett Street. Owner Lindsay Rice announced the closing on social media.

“We’re filled with nothing but gratitude for the amazing 10 years we’ve had, and are thankful for the friendships we’ve made, wine we’ve drank, and memories we’ve created with all of you,” the closing announcement reads.

The last day of service will be Sunday, Dec. 14, leaving time for one last holiday toast.

During its 10-year run in downtown Raleigh, Vita Vite always paired wine and art, using its walls as a revolving gallery for local artists. The massive bar and wine shop offered endless cozy corners and nooks, allowing the large space to feel personal to its patrons.

North Hills location

In 2017, Vita Vite expanded to North Hills with a second location. The North Hills wine bar will remain open, with plans to extend hours and add new events next year.

“So whether it’s for one last toast in our original location, or saying cheers to the next chapter at Midtown, come raise a glass with us! We look forward to hosting you this season and celebrating all that’s ahead for us in the New Year,” the post said.

New wine bars

Despite the closing, wine bars have remained popular in the Triangle in recent years, including several additions this year with more on the way.

Recent openings include Postino, St. Pierre and Foxcroft, with SixtyVines on the way in North Hills next month.
