  • Funguys Brewing closed its Raleigh taproom after seven years of operation.
  • Owners will keep distribution to bars, restaurants and bottle shops intact.
  • Taproom closure echoes wider pattern of shrinking Triangle craft beer venues.

A popular Raleigh brewery that’s big on IPAs has closed its taproom.

Once named the Triangle’s best brewery, Funguys Brewing in Raleigh announced this week that it had closed its taproom after seven years in business.

Funguys owners Carly and Nick Brango announced on Thursday, March 26 that the taproom had closed. But the owners said the beer would still be available in bottle shops, bars and restaurants. In 2022, readers of The News & Observer voted Funguys Brewing as their favorite brewery in the beer-loving Triangle.

The owners did not respond to a request for comment.

Funguys was known as one of the Triangle’s leaders in trendy hazy IPAs, brewing frequent small batch beers with different combinations of hops.

The closing follows a trend of shrinking taprooms in the Triangle’s craft beer scene. Other closings in the last year include Durham’s Proximity Brewing, Vicious Fishes in Fuquay-Varina and Apex and Cotton House Brewing in Cary.

Despite the taproom closing, Funguys is among the breweries pouring beers at this month’s Y’all Means All beer festival.
