A new brewery is heading to downtown Raleigh, joining a new development near Union Station and Boylan Heights.

Basic Brewing plans to open a new brewpub in the Platform Apartments, part of Kane Realty’s West End development.

The new brewery is owned by Raleigh local Kendall York, a private equity investor.

“West End and the surrounding neighborhoods truly capture the heart and history of Raleigh,” York said in a news release. “As someone who has lived here my entire life, it’s exciting to be part of a growing area that still feels deeply connected to the community. We’re looking forward to creating a space where people can come together and enjoy the simple things.”

Basic Brewing vibe

While the name suggests simplicity, renderings of the new Basic Brewing show a mid-century modern design of wood, tile and brass.

Beyond core beers, Basic plans to have cocktails and wine and a full kitchen. On the food side, Basic will serve pizza and American pub dishes.

Basic joins other ground-floor tenants at Platform, like Homebody Yoga, Brightside Books & Wine, The Bike Library and nail salon MOOD Raleigh.

“We’re excited to welcome Basic Brewing to Platform and continue building a dynamic, community-driven retail mix in West End,” said Mary Ehrenberger, Retail Leasing and Multi-Site Manager for Kane Realty Corporation. “Their concept aligns perfectly with the vision for Platform—bringing people together through unique, high-quality experiences in a neighborhood setting.”

The new brewery arrives as North Carolina’s craft beer scene appears to be at a crossroads. In the last six months, the Triangle has seen the closing of several popular taprooms, most recently Funguys in Raleigh.

Basic Brewing is expected to open later this year, with a launch planned in the fall.
