Foodie market & deli planned for former downtown Raleigh grocery space
A new gourmet grab-and-go market is planned for downtown Raleigh, replacing a prominent corner store.
The new Wolfside Urban Market will open at 149 E. Davie St., at the corner of Blount Street in the former DGX convenience and grocery store space.
The market is owned by Vishal Patel, who previously worked at Bulldega Urban Market, a gourmet foods store on the ground floor of the One City Center building in Downtown Durham.
The two businesses are not related, Bulldega owner Ritesh Shah confirmed.
Patel created Wolfside Urban Market last week, according to corporate filings, characterizing the business as a “Gourmet Grocery Store.”
The news of Wolfside Urban Market was first reported by Triangle Business Journal.
Dollar General closed its DGX location in the same space in December 2024. The slimmed down dollar store was notable for being the only Dollar General that sold fresh produce in Raleigh, The News & Observer reported at the time.
Wolfside enters a part of downtown Raleigh where grocery options are scarce. Before DGX’s closing, a previous gourmet foods shop, Raleigh Provisions also closed nearby.
In a phone interview, Patel said Wolfside looked to open this fall, possibly in November.
With the shop, Patel said the shelves will be stocked with beer and wine, and gourmet foods and gifts from small and local vendors. There will also be a deli serving and selling custom sandwiches and grab-and-go foods.
