A second Lidl grocery store in Cary will open later this year. Here’s where

After not being able to open a second Cary store in 2018, German grocer Lidl has confirmed that a new store will open in the High House Crossing shopping center, a real estate investment firm announced on Thursday.
The 26,543-square-foot store will be at the intersection of West Green Level/High House roads and N.C. Highway 55 near I-540. Its fourth Wake County location will be in the space of a former Harris Teeter location that closed in 2017 after 20 years there.
A Lidl spokesperson said in an email there is not a determined grand opening date yet. The store will be ready for business in mid-year 2020, according to the announcement.
Lidl, one of the largest supermarket chains in the world, has another Cary location that opened last November off of North Harrison Avenue. A second store was being planned in West Cary until construction was called off due to a contract dispute with a developer.
Its current Cary store is near its German competitor, ALDI, which has 10 stores in the Triangle already.
Cary’s population of over 160,000 people with an average household income of $91,000 is an attractive market for grocery chains.
Wegmans has two Cary stores planned, including one set to open this year in the new Twin Lakes Shopping Center on Davis Drive and Airport Boulevard in west Cary and a second in the upcoming Fenton development near Cary Towne Center.
Just last December, Lidl opened a new store in North Raleigh at 4115 Buffaloe Road.
