Wegmans in Cary announces opening date and begins hiring for part- and full-time jobs
Wegmans announced Monday that its second grocery store in the state and the Triangle will open this summer in west Cary on Aug. 2 and is now hiring for up to 450 positions.
The 103,000-square-foot store is at Davis Drive and Airport Boulevard. About 300 of its jobs will be part-time across store departments.
Applications for full- and part-time positions in customer and food service have already opened.
Training for new employees will begin this spring, according to the Wegmans website.
In a statement, Wegmans said it has been named one of the ‘100 Best Companies to Work For’ by FORTUNE magazine for 23 consecutive years, ranking No. 3 in 2020.
FORTUNE said the grocer “boasts a cult following even among employees.”
“I’ve heard people say Wegmans is the Disneyland of grocery stores, and I couldn’t agree more,” said Katie Duchnowski, the Cary store manager, in a press release. “While we set high standards for the products and services we offer, the people are what set us apart.”
Applicants can see the positions online at https://jobs.wegmans.com/west-cary or call 984-960-5580 for more information.
The first Wegmans in North Carolina opened Sept. 29, in Raleigh at 1200 Wake Towne Drive in the Midtown East shopping center. The opening of Wegmans’ 100th store broke first-day records, The News & Observer reporter. About 3,000 people waited in line for the 7 a.m. opening with many camping out overnight, The N&O reported.
Wegmans has a cult-like following with a large portion of the store devoted to prepared foods, The N&O reported, including a coffee bar, pizza bar, salad bar and burgers. At least three more stores are expected to come to the Triangle: another in Cary, Wake Forest and Chapel Hill.
