Looking for a job? UPS and others are hiring thousands of workers across the Triangle.
Across the Triangle and around the country, employers are scrambling for staff. And with the holiday season approaching, many companies are going to extra lengths to fill their rosters.
The News & Observer is compiling job opportunities. Here is a look at who is hiring in Raleigh, Durham and around the Triangle.
UPS hiring
UPS hosted a multi-day hiring fair that ended Saturday, but the company is still aggressively seeking new employees to shore up its holiday rush. UPS is looking to hire nearly 1,000 seasonal workers for it Raleigh location. The campaign is part of a national effort to find more than 60,000 new staff members. Interested parties are invited to apply online at UPSjobs.com.
What are the jobs? Full- and part-time seasonal positions are available — primarily package handlers, drivers and driver-helpers. The positions can often lead to permanent employment, according to a company press release.
“Over the last three years, about a third of those hired by UPS for seasonal package handler jobs were later hired in a permanent position when the holidays were over, and about 138,000 UPS employees – nearly a third of the company’s U.S. workforce – started in seasonal positions,” the release said.
What they’re saying:
“There are a lot of advantages that attract a lot of good talent,” Michael Scott, a corporate communications representative from UPS, told the News + Observer. “There’s full health care, you have a pension and benefit plans, paid time off, we have tuition reimbursement — so people often stay with us.”
“I think UPS attracts certain people because they know that they can make a career out of it,” Scott added. “...You can start out with our company as a package handler or maybe a driver and work your way up through management or what have you, but the opportunity is to stay here as a long-term career. The opportunity for permanent employee employment is important.”
