Pendo is gearing up to go public. Its new exec helped guide Wilmington’s nCino to an IPO
Raleigh software startup Pendo says it’s on a path to going public next year.
This week it plucked its newest executive from a North Carolina tech firm that just went public last year.
Trisha Price, who most recently was chief product officer at the Wilmington finance technology company nCino, will take on the same role at Pendo.
Price, who earned her undergraduate degree from N.C. State University, said she believes Pendo shares a lot of similarities with nCino before it went public at a value of more than $6 billion.
Pendo, one of the Triangle’s fastest-growing companies, is currently valued at $2.6 billion by investors, The News & Observer previously reported. Pendo also said this week that it now employs more than 800 people.
The N&O spoke with Price about her move to Pendo. The following conversation has been edited and condensed for clarity.
Q. Why did you decide to leave nCino to go to Pendo?
A. My 5.5 years at nCino exceeded any expectations I ever had. When I joined, it was a small company with big dreams and we executed and stayed focused on customers and grew to be the global leader in cloud banking with a successful IPO.
When I got to know Pendo — the product and the people — I saw many of the same characteristics that attracted me to nCino: a maniacal focus on customers, a product in an exciting and emerging space, a product that customers love, and company culture that attracts top talent and has fun. All of this drew me to Pendo. I am excited to be a part of this winning team and to provide a platform to product-led companies that helps them optimize their digital toolset.
Q. What was it that made nCino successful — and do you think Pendo shares any of those characteristics?
A. Absolutely. Both companies are customer focused, innovative and creating platforms to solve multiple problems, and both are in a changing, emerging space. nCino was early in the journey to cloud banking, and we really changed the way banks engage across departments and with their customers.
Pendo is helping product-led organizations create delightful experiences for their employees and customers. That is equally transformative for a lot of companies.
Q. What’s your vision for Pendo going forward? Where do you think the opportunities are?
A. Software is changing everything. It has changed how we shop, how we get to the airport or to a friend’s house, how we bank, and how employees interact. Product-led organizations are going to be winners in every industry because they put software at the center of the experience they provide for customers and their own employees.
Pendo has the opportunity to be the platform for product-led organizations. My vision is to equip various stakeholders across product-led organizations with connected tools to help them create software. Using Pendo, they’ll have the best quantitative and qualitative data at their fingertips to optimize their tools.
Q. Will you be staying in the Wilmington area or moving to Raleigh?
A. I will continue to live with my family in Wilmington, but I will spend significant time in Raleigh as well as traveling to our other offices and visiting customers.
