Publix Super Markets secures land to build another Triangle location. Here’s where.
Publix Super Markets, a Florida-based grocery chain with locations across the Southern states, has leased a plot of land in East Raleigh for another Triangle store.
The 45,000-square-foot Publix at Buffaloe Bend will open at the intersection of Buffaloe and Forestville roads, about 10 miles south of Wake Forest. The land is currently undeveloped.
“Publix is always looking to grow across the Triangle area and provide its premier customer service and quality foods to future customers,” said Jared Glover, a Publix spokesperson.
Glover could not provide a construction or opening timeline, he told The News & Observer. The store will eventually employ about 140 associates.
East Raleigh’s Publix will be the Triangle’s eleventh location. The chain opened its first area location in 2014 at The Bradford in Cary. The grocery store’s arrival sparked much controversy, including an unsuccessful lawsuit. Since then, Publix has popped up in Apex, Raleigh, Wake Forest and other Triangle towns.
The newest location was prompted by consumer demand, Glover said.
“We’ve received numerous requests for us to open in this area and we are happy to meet that need,” he said.
A Rolesville Publix is under construction and is scheduled to open in 2023 as part of a $120 million mixed-use development, The N&O reported. The development will include grocery, retail, restaurant, residential and medical uses.
