Raleigh is getting a new garden center.

Fifth Season Gardening, which has three locations in North Carolina and Virginia, will open a new store at 1930 Wake Forest Road, next to Bowstring Pizza and Brewyard.

This will be the second Triangle location for the company, which has shops in Carrboro, Asheville — where the first store opened — and Charlottesville, Virginia.

“We’re excited to bring the full Fifth Season Gardening experience to Raleigh,” president and co-owner Rachael Claxton said in a news release. “Fifth Season promotes joyful living, healthy ecosystems and more connected communities by sharing our passion for better making and growing. Shopping local with us is equal parts finding something you want and discovering something new that brings happiness to your life.”

Fifth Season Gardening previously operated a small hydroponic gardening store by the State Fairgrounds from 2007 until 2021.

The new 6,700-square-foot store in Raleigh is expected to open in mid-November.

What will the new Raleigh gardening store sell?

Fifth Season Gardening is known for its selection of organic gardening products, houseplants, pots and indoor growing products.

Customers will find soils, amendments, organic pest control items, hydroponic products, soils and nutrients, Photontek lighting and AC Infinity grow tents and environmental controls.

Fifth Season Gardening will add a 2,500-square-foot outdoor nursery — filled with locally grown organic vegetables and herbs, native perennials, annuals, trees and shrubs — in early 2025.

The site on Wake Forest Road is not far from Raleigh Iron Works, a mixed-use development that contains multifamily residential options along with a growing list of tenants, including plant store Urban Pothos.

In other local garden shop news, Logan’s Garden Shop, which has sold plants and other supplies in downtown Raleigh from more than three decades, is moving to a new spot at the State Farmers Market in early 2025. Logan’s will be housed in the octagonal building and greenhouse next to the Farmers Market Restaurant, The News & Observer previously reported.

Garden center moves into former antique store

The antique shop Acquisitions Limited formerly occupied the space near Bowstring Pizza and Brewyard, where Fifth Season is opening.

Acquisitions closed June 1 after more than 30 years, Triangle Business Journal reported. Owner Ross Spain shared the news on Instagram at the time, saying he wanted to “continue what I love but at a sustainable pace” and with his new partner.

The antique store moved from its longtime home in Five Points to the Wake Forest Road location in 2020.
