3 new Raleigh restaurants to watch & a popular fashion retailer files for bankruptcy
Two existing Triangle restaurants are expanding in North Raleigh this year.
Beow’s Books & Brews plans to open a second location in Falls River Town Center this summer. The restaurant first opened in Brennan Station, off Creedmoor Road, in 2023.
In addition to selling books, Beow’s serves coffee, beer and food.
“We love the high concentration of residential, and we were excited to be in that area,” founder and managing partner Jim Ranieri previously told The News & Observer.
Red Hot & Blue is also returning to Raleigh. The restaurant, which has a location in Morrisville, will open in April at Quail Corners Shopping Center, just miles from the site off Falls of Neuse where it formerly had a location.
It will have a drive-thru along with indoor and outdoor seating. The restaurant serves a variety of meats, including brisket, pulled pork and sausage, and classic sides such as cole slaw, potato salad and beans.
But those are just two new restaurants coming soon to the Triangle.
Here are some other openings and closings to know about.
Tractor Supply Co. expands Triangle footprint
A new Tractor Supply Co. store in Zebulon recently celebrated its grand opening. This location joins the company’s 100 other stores in North Carolina, including in Selma, Hillsborough, Fuquay-Varina, Garner and Knightdale.
The store at 1016 Old U.S. Highway 264 has a garden center and pet wash, complete with wash bays, grooming tables, specialty shampoos and grooming tools.
Tractor Supply also sells mowers, power tools, fencing, clothing, grills and many other products.
Ammi’s bakery opens in downtown Raleigh
Visitors to a new bakery in Seaboard Station may recognize the desserts.
That’s because Ammi’s, the sweets shop, is from the owners of Cary’s Cilantro Indian Cafe and features many of the handmade desserts sold at the Indian restaurant.
There’s seating for nearly two dozen in the bakery, which opened at 111 Seaboard Station Drive over the weekend.
In addition to menu items like cardamom pistachio cheesecake and rasmalai cake, Ammi’s offers a few savory dishes, including lentil soup, samosa chaat, chicken samosa chaat and chicken and steak samosas.
- Speaking of Cary, Farmside Kitchen recently opened at 316 Colonades Way. This is the restaurant’s third location, joining stores in Durham and Chantilly, Virginia. The fast-casual spot is known for its “farmbowls,” which are made with grains, greens and proteins.
Forever 21 files for bankruptcy
The popular fast fashion retailer Forever 21 has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection and has started a “wind down” of its business, holding sales at stores across the country.
Forever 21 has stores at Raleigh’s Crabtree Valley Mall and Durham’s The Streets at Southpoint.
“Decisions about which stores will ultimately close are ongoing, pending further discussions with landlords and potential buyers,” according to a note on the company’s website.
Forever 21’s troubles stem from competition with “foreign fast fashion companies,” rising costs of inventory and employee wages and changing consumer trends, company CFO Brad Sell said in a news release announcing the decision to begin bankruptcy proceedings.
Forever 21 is the latest big retailer to face financial troubles, joining businesses including Joann, Big Lots and Party City, which have closed stores nationally in recent months.
New salon announced for North Hills
Hush, a Raleigh salon, is opening a second location in the North Hills Innovation District next to HomeTurf, the cycling studio.
The salon has an existing location at Smoky Hollow in downtown Raleigh, another Kane Realty development. At the North Hills spot, expected to open this fall, Hush will offer spa services in addition to hair services.
Here’s what else is coming soon to the North Hills Innovation District, located along St. Albans Drive:
