Located in Eastgate Crossing at 1800 E. Franklin St., the 10,000-square-foot store will sell merchandise for pets and pet lovers, and offer grooming, training and veterinary services.
At the grand opening event, visitors can get goodie bags, discounts, double Vital Care points for purchases and a chance to win a shopping spree up to $499. The event will also offer snacks, music and dog and cat adoptions in partnership with the nonprofit Petco Love.
Animals that were in the store during the summer flooding were relocated and kept safe, a senior manager of public relations for Petco told The News & Observer in an email.
Petco has 30 stores across North Carolina, including eight across Cary, Clayton, Durham, Holly Springs, Raleigh and Wake Forest, in addition to the Chapel Hill location.
Other pet stores in Chapel Hill include Hollywood Feed, Feeders Pet Supply, Pet Supplies Plus and Woof Gang Bakery & Grooming.
Businesses reopening at Eastgate Crossing
The store is the latest in Eastgate Crossing shopping center to reopen.
Snooze, a brunch restaurant known for its pancakes, began welcoming diners again last week after several months of renovations. The Greek restaurant Kipos also recently reopened, and Blo is expected to reopen Friday, March 6.
However, several retailers that previously had locations at the shopping center decided not to rebuild after the storm. Those include Starbucks, Talbots and Rise Southern Biscuits and Righteous Chicken.
Other businesses, such as Style Brows Threading Studio and MedFirst, moved to different locations.
