When will Durham’s new Publix open?

Located at 4628 Guess Road, Publix will celebrate a grand opening Saturday, April 11. The Florida-based grocer is known for its sandwiches, nicknamed “Pub Subs,” and its bakery items, including fresh bread, custom cakes and cookies, which kids get for free.

This will be Durham’s second Publix store, joining a location at 1065 Yunus Road, in the Marketplace at Ellis Crossing development. Publix has about a dozen other stores in the Triangle, across Raleigh, Rolesville, Cary, Wendell, Apex, Wake Forest and Clayton.

Latta Park development

At Latta Park, Publix will join businesses including a forthcoming Chipotle, leasing documents show. Developer Crosland Southeast is behind the master planning and rezoning for the 30-acre Latta Park project, and is building and owns the commercial component.

Tri Pointe Homes is building The Grove at Latta Park, a neighborhood of about 176 two- and three-story townhomes within walking distance of the grocery store. The homes are still under construction and are expected to come online around late summer or early fall, a new home specialist at Tri Pointe Homes told The News & Observer by phone.

Construction crews started clearing the property in the fall of 2024.

New Publix stores in the Triangle

The Latta Park location continues Publix’s growth in the Triangle.

Raleigh’s store at 7330 Buffaloe Road was the most recent location to open, in August, coming just months after Publix opened a store at 821 S. Main St. in Rolesville.
