Two die from coronavirus at Franklin County nursing home days after facility’s first case

Franklin County officials reported two COVID-19 related deaths at a local nursing home, according to a Monday morning news release. Both deaths were patients and occurred April 12, according to Franklin County health director Scott Lavigne.

The Louisburg Nursing Center now has 47 positive confirmed coronavirus cases after testing all 61 patients and all staff at the nursing home, the release states. Of the 47 cases, 35 are residents and 12 are staff members.

On Tuesday, April 7, the Center had only one case, The News & Observer previously reported. By Thursday, there were 33 positive cases.

The news release says the two deaths will be attributed to Franklin County’s case count later today.

According to nursing home ratings on Medicare.gov, the center has a two-star out of five rating — considered “below average.”

It also has a one-star, or “much below average,” rating for long-stay resident quality of care.
