22 horses and a dog were found dead on her Wake County farm. Now she’s going to jail.
A woman has pleaded guilty to animal cruelty after 22 horses and a dog were found dead on her southern Wake County property.
Janet Burleson, 64, faced the criminal charges after several horses were discovered in January, according to ABC11, The News & Observer’s media partner. She was sentenced to between five and 15 months in jail and 24 months probation. She will not be eligible to own animals again, the report said.
The horses didn’t have access to food or water, The N&O previously reported. The animals were found dead Jan. 18 when investigators were called to the farm off Fanny Brown Road in southern Wake County.
