Durham police identify Enfield man found with fatal gunshot wound last week

Durham Police have identified a man found dead with a gunshot wound Saturday on the 1700 block of Palmer Street.

Jenorye Zequan Britt, 20, of Enfield, was found shortly after 12:15 p.m. when police were called to the scene. No charges have been filed and no further details are available, police said. An investigation is ongoing.

The death was the second shooting-related death In Durham on Saturday.

Earlier in the day, Durham police said officers fatally shot a 30-year-old man during a struggle after police responded to a domestic incident.

Prior to today’s shootings, there had been nine homicides in Durham as of March 16, according to DPD statistics. There had been five homicides in Durham in 2018 over the same period of time.

Violent crime in Durham was down 13 percent in 2018 compared to the prior year, and was at a four-year low. But the city had 32 homicides last year, a 52 percent increase from 2017, The News & Observer has reported.
