A man was found dead of a gunshot wound at the Lakewood Shopping Center in Durham on Sunday, police said.
Emani Letreo Ricks, 22, of Greensboro, was shot near the Dragon Gate Chinese restaurant, according to Watch Commander Sgt. W. Coghill and a Durham Police Department press release.
The police got a call about a possible shooting at the shopping center just after 4 p.m. Sunday and found Ricks already dead, Coghill said.
No suspects have been named, police spokesman Wil Glenn said.
The death was the third shooting-related death in Durham this weekend.
Early Saturday morning, Durham police said officers fatally shot Ondrae Levado Hutchinson, 30, after police responded to a domestic incident in east Durham. And later that day, the police reported a homicide following a shooting on the 1700 block of Palmer Street in Durham. The name of the person killed has not been released.
Prior to these shootings, there had been nine homicides in Durham as of March 16, according to police statistics. There had been five homicides in Durham in 2018 over the same period of time.
Violent crime in Durham was down 13 percent in 2018 compared to the prior year, and was at a four-year low. But the city had 32 homicides last year, a 52 percent increase from 2017, The News & Observer has reported.
