Delta to begin flying nonstop between RDU and Miami
Delta Air Lines, the busiest at Raleigh-Durham International Airport, will begin offering nonstop flights to Miami in May.
Delta will offer two round-trips a day between RDU and Miami, starting May 22. The carrier joins Frontier and American, which also offer nonstop flights from RDU to Miami.
The move by Delta intensifies the competition with American, the second-busiest airline at RDU in terms of passengers. American announced this week that in May it will begin nonstop flights between RDU and Boston, a popular route for Delta.
The RDU flights are part of a broader expansion at Miami that Delta announced Friday. Altogether, it is adding 13 nonstop flights to Miami from airports that include Tampa, Orlando and Salt Lake City. The RDU flights will be aboard Embraer ERJ-175 aircraft.
Delta is RDU’s largest carrier, accounting for nearly 31% of all passengers passing through the airport. The airline has about 80 departures a day from RDU to 30 nonstop destinations.
