Another area Sheetz store closes for cleaning after worker tests positive for COVID-19

A Sheetz store in south Raleigh has closed temporarily for deep cleaning after an employee tested positive for the novel coronavirus, a company spokesperson said Sunday.

The store is at 9915 Fayetteville Road.

Since the pandemic began, several Sheetz locations across the nation have been closed for cleaning after employees tested positive, said spokesperson Nick Ruffner in an email to The News & Observer.

Last month, The News & Observer reported a worker tested positive at a Sheetz store on N.C. 751 in Durham. A case in Trinity was reported by The Winston-Salem Journal last month, and Ruffner said a Sheetz store in Mt. Airy recently closed after a worker tested positive for the virus.

Masks are not mandatory for Sheetz employees in North Carolina, Ruffner said.

“Sheetz is following all state and local regulations regarding the wearing of masks,” he said. “Masks are not mandatory in this area of North Carolina, but Sheetz is providing masks for employees who would like to wear one.

“While Sheetz is not administering tests to employees, we are paying the cost of testing for employees who receive one.”

Ruffner previously told The News & Observer that Sheetz was taking “an abundantly cautious approach, working with all employees who may have had close contact with this employee and exceeding all sanitization guidelines.”

Gas station pumps are also being sanitized and cleaned.
