Man killed driving wrong way on Six Forks Road in North Raleigh

Raleigh police identified a man killed in a wrong-way crash on Six Forks Road as 41-year-old Gabriel James Jacobs.

The crash occurred around 1:16 p.m. Monday when Jacobs, driving a 2014 Honda CR-V southbound in the northbound lanes approaching Newton Road, struck a 2015 Toyota Highlander, according to a Tuesday news release.

A third driver was in a Dodge Durango traveling north on Six Forks Road near Newton Road. A fourth driver was in a Mazda CX-5 also traveling north.

Traffic for southbound Six Forks Rd was stopped at the intersection when Jacobs passed the stopped vehicles and drove into the northbound lanes, according to the news release. He continued into oncoming traffic striking the Highlander head-on.

Debris from the crash struck the Durango. Jacobs’ car slid sideways began to roll and struck the CX-5. It continued rolling before coming to rest in the right southbound lane.

Jacobs did not survive the crash, but no other drivers were seriously injured, the news release stated.

All six lanes of Six Forks Road between Sawmill and Newton roads were closed while police responded to the crash.
