The remains of a man found in Carrboro have been identified as that of a man reported missing two weeks ago.

The remains of a man found in Carrboro have been identified as those of a man reported missing two weeks ago, the Carrboro Police Department said Friday.

The North Carolina Office of the Chief Medical Examiner positively identified a deceased person found in a wooded area near Hanford Drive as Daishi Tanabe.

The cause of death is still under investigation. Police do not believe it is linked to a crime.

Tanabe was reported missing on July 19. He was last seen on July 13 at his residence in Carrboro and was believed to suffering “from a cognitive impairment,” police said previously.
