Johnston County Sheriff’s Office has charged a man with allegedly fatally shooting his former stepfather on June 15, 2023.

A mother and her son are both accused of shooting and killing a 69-year-old man at his home in the town of Benson in Johnston County.

The Fayetteville pair have both been charged with murder.

James Dwight Peacock was found inside his home on N.C. 27 West around 4 p.m. June 15 by a family friend who had gone to check on him and called 911, according to a Johnston County Sheriff’s Office news release. He had been shot one time.

Peacock was the ex-husband of Vickie Peacock, 55, and the former stepfather of Wesley Alexander Jones, 25.

A week later, deputies arrested Jones in Cumberland County and charged him with murder.

On Friday, Vickie Peacock was charged after additional investigation, the Johnston County Sheriff’s Office said.

Jones and Peacock are both being held in the Johnston County jail without bail.

Authorities arrested Peacock at her home Friday with the help of the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office.

The case remains under investigation.
