Wake County man in custody after double shooting kills one, injures another

Police have charged a 66-year-old with murder after a double shooting in Willow Spring on Monday evening.

Around 7:15 p.m., two men were shot on the 7500 block of Panther Lake Road in Willow Spring, just east of Fuquay-Varina.

Both men were taken to the hospital, according to police, where later Cody Armstrong, 30, died of his injuries.

Police have not stated the condition of the second man who was shot.

On Tuesday morning, the Wake County Sheriff’s Office said Lawrence Paul Menegay, 66, had been arrested in connection with the homicide.

He has been charged with murder and is in custody at the Wake County Jail.

According to court records, Menegay lives on the block of Panther Lake Road where the shooting took place.

Police have not stated how the men knew each other or what prompted the shooting. The identity of the second man who was shot has also not been released.
