Travis Scott Raleigh show postponed without explanation as PNC Arena pledges new tickets
Star rapper Travis Scott performed Friday night to a sold-out PNC Arena, but his second scheduled Raleigh concert of the weekend was postponed with short notice, leaving ticket holders wondering why and what comes next.
On Saturday, PNC Arena said that night’s Scott show would be pushed back. “Hold on to your tickets as they will be honored for the TBD new date,” the venue website stated.
No further details were provided. The News & Observer reached out to PNC Arena and Live Nation, the organizer of Scott’s current multi-city tour, to ask why the second show was postponed and to seek more details on potential refunds. Neither responded by late Sunday afternoon.
Scott, a nine-time Grammy nominee, kicked off his Utopia Tour Presents Circus Maximus in Charlotte on Wednesday. His Friday night show in the Triangle appeared to go off without a hitch, though there were reports of substantial traffic around the arena and the nearby State Fair grounds.
On Saturday, Scott posted concert videos to Instagram, where he has more than 52.6 million followers. Underneath the posts of lively arena crowds, many commenters expressed frustration at the postponement and the lack of clarity about what caused it.
“We drove 5 hours and booked a hotel in Raleigh to see you. Now we’re out of luck, why,” one comment read.
This weekend was not the first time a Scott show has run into problems at PNC Arena.
In 2019, Raleigh concertgoers were stuck outside for hours beyond the scheduled start time. Once the crowd was let in, Scott did not begin performing until almost midnight. That night, Scott promised everyone at the arena a free “golden ticket” to another show. However, Laura Spivey of Greenville, who traveled to the 2019 show with her wheelchair-bound son, said they never received new tickets after the delay caused them to leave early.
Spivey had attempted to redeem tickets a few days after the show, but she said the code she was given was invalid. She then called Ticketmaster, which is owned by Live Nation, and was informed the free tickets were “limited to ‘just a few.’”
“Every now and then we understand that things happen, but it seems to be a lot with (Scott),” Spivey said this weekend after learning another of his Raleigh performances had issues. She did not have tickets to either of the shows.
