Woman killed in 4-vehicle crash near NC State, Raleigh police say
A 62-year-old woman was killed and another driver was injured in a four-vehicle crash on Western Boulevard Tuesday afternoon near the campus of North Carolina State University, Raleigh police said.
The driver who was hospitalized did not have life-threatening injuries, Raleigh police spokesman Lt. Jason Borneo told The News & Observer.
The crash happened about 2:18 p.m. on the eastbound lanes near the intersection of Western Boulevard and Dan Allen Drive, police said in a news release.
The woman, Wanza Cole, was driving eastbound on Western Boulevard in a 2019 Honda Accord. Police said she didn’t stop as she approached the intersection and hit a 2015 Audi Q3 that was stopped at the light.
That set off a chain reaction, with the Audi hitting a 2018 Land Rover that was stopped in front of it.
Meanwhile, Cole’s car continued and hit a 2012 Dodge Avenger that was stopped in the right lane.
The crash remains under investigation and no criminal charges will be filed, police said.
A traffic jam was caused by the crash, according to News & Observer newsgathering partner ABC11. The eastbound lanes were closed with crime tape.
