A pedestrian was hit and killed crossing the street in downtown Cary

A 37-year-old Raleigh woman was hit and killed by a car as she tried to cross North Harrison Avenue near the Cary train and bus station on Monday evening.

Amy Marie Delettre of Raleigh was crossing near the intersection of North Harrison and Hillsboro Street at about 6:30 p.m., according to Cary police.

Delettre was hit by a Ford Fiesta driven by Richard Yoneoka, according to police. She was taken to a hospital where she later died.

Yoneoka, 82, remained on the scene and was cooperative, police said. They charged him with misdemeanor death by motor vehicle.

North Harrison Avenue is four lanes wide where the collision occurred, and the posted speed limit is 35 mph.
