Two children died in a Raleigh house fire in September 2024. Now, their mother has been charged with neglect.

Rodreika Porter, 34, is charged with two counts of felony child neglect inflicting serious bodily injury, the Raleigh Police Department announced Thursday.

Firefighters responded to a cardiac arrest call around 6 a.m. Sept. 29, 2024, and found a fire in the kitchen of the apartment on the 1800 block of Cantwell Court, according to ABC11, The News & Observer’s newsgathering partner.

The children, a 4-year-old boy and a 1-year-old girl, had been left unattended when the fire occurred, according to a Police Department news release.

They died after being taken to a local hospital for smoke inhalation, ABC11 reported..

The Ahoskie Police Department arrested Porter Thursday morning, according to police.
