Curbside trash and recycling collection schedules throughout the Triangle are changing because of Christmas and New Year’s.

Cary: Collection is normal for routes Monday, Dec. 22 through Wednesday, Dec. 24 and Monday, Dec. 29 through Wednesday, Dec. 31. Thursday’s collections are delayed to Friday, Dec. 26 and Friday, Jan. 2. The Citizen’s Convenience Center is open 8 a.m. until noon Dec. 24 and closed Dec. 25 and Jan. 1.

Fuquay-Varina: The Dec. 25 collection is delayed to Dec. 26. Garbage service is not affected on New Year’s Day.

Garner: Thursday routes will be serviced Friday during the weeks of Christmas and New Year’s.

Holly Springs: Garbage and recycling collections are delayed by one day Thursday and Friday, with Friday customers served Saturday, for the weeks of Christmas and Jan. 1, 2026. During the week of Christmas, yard waste for Wednesday-Friday customers will be collected Tuesday, Dec. 23. During the week of New Year’s, yard waste for Thursday customers will be collected Friday.

Knightdale: During the week of Christmas, Thursday and Friday collections will be picked up one day later. During the week of New Year’s, trash and recycling collection is delayed by one day for all residents.

Morrisville: Garbage and recycling collections scheduled for Dec. 25 picked up Friday, Dec. 26. Friday’s collections will be picked up Saturday, Dec. 28. Garbage and recycling collections scheduled for Jan. 1 will be picked up Jan. 2. Friday collections will be picked up Saturday, Jan. 3.

Raleigh: Thursday’s residential garbage, recycling and yard waste collection routes will be collected Friday, and Friday’s routes will be collected Saturday, for both weeks.

Wake County: Solid Waste Convenience Centers and Multi-Material/Household Hazardous Waste facility close at noon Dec. 24. The South Wake Landfill closes at 1 p.m. Dec. 24. All are closed Dec. 25 and Jan. 1.

Wake Forest: Trash and recycling will be collected as normal Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday during the weeks of Dec. 22 and Dec. 29. Thursday’s trash and recycling will be collected Friday, and Friday’s route will be collected Saturday both weeks. Christmas trees will be collected and recycled from homes during yard waste collection starting Dec. 29.

Zebulon: Yard waste and leaves will not be collected Dec. 24-26. Trash and recycling will be collected Dec. 27.

Curbside collection changes in Durham

Durham: For the week of Dec. 22, Thursday customers will receive collections Dec. 26. For the week of Dec. 29, Thursday customers will receive collection Jan. 2. The Waste Disposal and Recycling Center, Yard Waste Facility and Household Hazardous Waste Center will close at 1:30 p.m. Dec. 24, and is closed Dec. 25 and Jan. 1. It will have normal hours Dec. 26 and Jan. 2.

Durham County: Thursday’s roadside recycling will be collected Saturday, Dec. 27 during the week of Christmas and Saturday, Jan. 3 the week of New Year’s. The Solid Waste and Recycling convenience sites are closed Dec. 24-26. The Redwood and Northern sites will open Saturday, Dec. 27, and the Parkwood site will open Monday, Dec. 29. The sites are closed Jan. 1.

Carrboro: The week of Christmas, Wednesday’s collection will be Monday, Dec. 22; Thursday’s collection will be Dec. 23, and Friday’s collection will be Dec. 29. Yard waste will not be collected the week of Dec. 22.

Chapel Hill: Residential trash collection is not affected Dec. 24-26 or Jan. 1. Yard trimmings will not be collected Dec. 25, Dec. 26 or Jan. 1, and there are no make-up days. Commercial trash will not be collected Dec. 25-26 or Jan. 1.

Hillsborough: Solid waste routes will not be serviced Dec. 24-26. Residential solid waste collection will occur Tuesday, Dec. 23 for homes that receive service on Tuesdays or Wednesdays. It will occur Monday, Dec. 29 for homes that receive service on Thursdays, Fridays or Mondays. The week of New Year’s, there will be no collection Jan. 1; Jan. 1 and Jan. 2 solid waste routes will be collected Jan. 2. Christmas trees without stands, tinsel, ornaments, lights and decorations may be placed by the street for collection with yard waste. They can also be brought to the county waste and recycling centers except the one on Bradshaw Quarry Road.

Orange County: Thursday recycling will be collected Friday, Dec. 26, and Friday’s recycling will be collected Saturday, Dec. 27. The week of New Year’s, Thursday’s collection will be picked up Friday, Jan. 2, and Friday’s collection will be Saturday, Jan. 3. Waste and recycling centers and the C&D Landfill are closed Dec. 24-25 and Jan. 1.
