Barrett Bennett, 50, a passenger and owner of the Journey, was cited for aiding and abetting driving while impaired and no insurance, according to police.

The Journey was turning left onto Odyssey Drive from N.C. 55 when it was struck by a Suzuki motorcycle at about 1:15 a.m., according to police.

Nathan Curtis, 35, of Durham, was driving the motorcycle and was pronounced dead at the scene, police stated.

“According to investigators, the motorcyclist was speeding which contributed to causing the crash,” police spokeswoman Kammie Michael said by email Tuesday.

The driver and passenger of the Journey, both Durham residents, were treated at a hospital for injuries and released, according to police.
