Woman dead, teen driver injured after three-car wreck on US 70 in Johnston County

A 63-year-old woman was killed in a three-car wreck on U.S 70. Monday afternoon, according to Clayton police.

The crash occurred along U.S. 70 Business and Financial Drive in Clayton.

A 17-year-old male was “driving in an aggressive manner at a high rate of speed” accompanied by an “uninvolved black Dodge Ram truck” around 2:45 p.m. when police say he struck a Toyota Rav4 driven by Joan Ann Drake of Clayton.

Drake was pronounced dead at the scene after her vehicle flipped and struck a Honda CRV, police said. The driver of the CRV, 26-year-old Ashley Alexis Roark, was unharmed.

The 17-year-old driver, whose name was not released, was taken to the hospital for cuts on his hand.

Clayton police said charges are pending.

US 70 Business was shut down Monday afternoon while the accident was investigated and the vehicles were removed.
