Raleigh police charge 22-year-old with murder after man found shot near I-40 exit dies

A man has been arrested in a fatal shooting Saturday near an Interstate 40 exit ramp in South Raleigh, police said Monday.

Noshakir Tysha Lewis, 22, was charged with murder and robbery with a dangerous weapon in the shooting death of William Stanton Kinney, 36, according to a Raleigh Police Department news release.

Police responded to reports of a shooting near the I-40 exit ramp onto Hammond Road at around 3:30 a.m. Saturday. There, they found Kinney, who police say died of his injuries Sunday after being taken to WakeMed.

Lewis is being held in Wake County Detention Center without bail.

Kinney’s death was one of two fatal shootings over the weekend.

Police have not announced an arrest or any suspects in the death of Martin Dexter Penny, who also died at WakeMed after police found him Saturday night on Beauty Avenue, the Police Department stated in a news release.

There are 17 deaths being investigated as homicides this year by Raleigh Police Department. At the same point last year, 18 deaths were being investigated as homicides.
