43-year-old Raleigh man killed in fatal crash in Durham on Saturday

Durham police are investigating a crash that killed a 43-year-old Raleigh man on Guess Road Saturday morning.

Lashawn Daniel Jones was standing outside a box truck in a northbound lane of Guess Road near Bogarde Street. The truck was stopped to make a delivery and had its hazard lights on, according to a Durham Police Department news release.

Around 8:15 a.m. a Dodge Grand Caravan driven by Christopher Brandon Weathers, 33, of Rougemont crashed into the back of the truck, the release said.

Jones, an employee of Integrity Transport LLC of Raleigh, was taken to a hospital, where he died, according to the release.

Desmond Sykes, 26, of Raleigh, a second employee that was in the truck’s cargo area when the crash happened, was taken to the hospital with minor injuries, the release said.

Weathers also was taken to the hospital with minor injuries and was cited for misdemeanor death by vehicle and failure to reduce speed to avoid a collision, according to the release.

A section of Guess Road was closed for about three hours after the crash.
