NC National Guard member shot wife and himself in murder-suicide, Clayton police say

A National Guard member fatally shot his wife and himself during a domestic dispute in Clayton on Sunday night.

Christina Marie Bueno, 33, called 911 Sunday night, asking police to come to their Kennel Lane home because her husband, Jaime Fernando Bueno, 35, had a gun during a domestic dispute, according to a news release from the town of Clayton.

The 911 dispatcher heard the gunshots while on the phone with Bueno and the line disconnected, the release stated.

Clayton police found the couple dead in their 6-year-old son’s bedroom. The child was in the bedroom with his parents, unharmed, according to the release.

Investigators say the couple started fighting and Jamie Bueno took out a pistol and shot Christina Bueno several times before shooting himself, the release stated.

The couple had had problems before. Police responded to a call at the home in 2019, according to the news release.

The couple’s son was taken into custody by the Johnston County Department of Social Services. The department, along with the Clayton Police Department, has found family members who can care for the child, the release stated.
