Man shot in Cary neighborhood after breaking into car, police say. Resident arrested.

A Cary man was arrested Tuesday after shooting a man he said was breaking into his car in his driveway, police said.

Officers responded to the incident on Anita Way, in the northern part of the town, just before 4 a.m.

Heng Ye, a 51-year-old Cary resident, had stepped outside and found a man inside of his car, police said.

The man, whose name has not been released, started to run, “at which point he was shot,” police said in an email. He was taken to the hospital with serious injuries.

Ye was charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury, police said.

Shootings are rare in Cary, with just two reported in 2020 and at least five last year, The News & Observer previously reported.

The N&O has asked Cary police for further details on the shooting.
