Man charged in Knightdale bar shooting, assaults. Police are investigating

A man is in police custody after allegedly shooting a person and physically harming two other people at a Knightdale sports bar Friday afternoon in eastern Wake County.

Tyler Squirewell, 29, of Clayton, was arrested and charged with one count of assault inflicting serious injury.

The Knightdale Police Department is still working to identify other suspects in the incident, which occurred past 5 p.m. at Sports Page Bar on North Smithfield Road.

Squirewell is accused of shooting one man non-fatally, as well as harming two other people who were “assaulted from circumstances stemming from the incident” on the sidewalk in front of the bar, police said in a news release.

The shooting victim was hospitalized in critical condition. His identity has not yet been released.

Sports Page Bar was closed Friday night and reopened Saturday.

Investigators are investigating two different crime scenes related to the shooting, according to Knightdale Police Capt. Danny Phillips.

“Incidents such as these take time to thoroughly investigate,” Phillips said in a news release. “Our thoughts are with the victims and their families as they deal with this senseless act of violence.”

Just behind the shopping center where the bar is located, there’s a construction site, and ABC11, The N&O’s newsgathering partner, spoke with an eyewitness who works there.

The witness told ABC11 that a man showed up at the nearby construction site in bad shape. The witness, unidentified by ABC11, said the man had blood on him and fled the scene after a police officer arrived.

He was captured and arrested.

Anyone who may have been in the area at the time of the shooting or may have information about those involved is asked to call the Knightdale Police Department at (919) 217-2268.
