Wake school employee charged with assaulting 9-year-old special education student

A Wake County instructional assistant has been arrested on charges of assaulting an elementary school student who has disabilities.

Court records show that Garner Police charged Tiffany Krystine Ebron, 29, on Tuesday with one count each of misdemeanor assault on a child under 12, misdemeanor assault on an individual with disabilities and misdemeanor child abuse.

Ebron is a special programs instructional assistant at East Garner Elementary School. She works with special-education students at the school.

According to the arrest warrant, Ebron lifted the student by the feet at school on Nov. 14, resulting in the child striking the back of his his head on the floor. The warrant says Ebron dragged the 9-year-old child by the feet across the floor.

The warrant says the injury caused the child to complain of head pain. He also had carpet burns on his stomach and arms.

Suspended with pay

Ebron was arrested Tuesday by the Wake County Sheriff’s Office. Ebron was released from the Wake County jail on a $15,000 secured bond.

She has been suspended with pay, according to the Wake County school system. Ebron has worked for Wake since September 2019.

“I want to assure you that we take the safety of our students and staff members very seriously,” Carmen Graf, East Garner Elementary’s principal, said in a message sent to families. “While privacy laws prevent me from providing much additional information about the situation, I can share that Ms. Ebron is suspended.”
