In both cases, state law requires a probable cause hearing in juvenile court for youth 13 to 15 years old charged with a Class A felony like murder. If the juvenile court judge finds sufficient evidence the teen may have committed the crime, the case will automatically be transferred to superior court where the teen would be tried as an adult.
There were 33 total homicides in Raleigh last year, according to police.
