Man fatally shot in Durham Thursday night; 2nd homicide this week

Durham police identified a man fatally shot south of downtown Thursday night as 37-year-old Raheem Flood of Mebane.

Officers responded at 8:41 p.m. to a reported gunshot wound in the 3000 block of East Weaver Street and found Flood with serious injuries, according to a news release. The location is between South Roxboro Street and East Cornwallis Road.

He was taken to the hospital, where he died.

Investigators have not released other details.

2nd fatal shooting in Durham this week

It was the second fatal shooting in Durham this week.

Sunday night, 34-year-old Chaquila Little was fatally shot at a gas station in the 900 block of Fayetteville St. south of the Durham Freeway and downtown.

Police charged Braham Pugh, 30, with first-degree murder in her death.

Fatal shootings are down this year

As of Oct. 12, a total of 182 people had been shot this year in Durham, 25 of them fatally, according to police statistics.

That is down from 32 fatal shootings by the same time in each of the previous two years, the statistics show.
