Man found shot dead inside crashed car in northern Durham
Police are investigating after a man was found shot to death inside a crashed car in northern Durham early Monday morning.
Officers responded around 1:30 a.m. to a shooting near the intersection of East Carver Street and Commons Boulevard in the city’s Braggtown area. They found a crashed vehicle with the man inside who was was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police have not released his name, age or other details.
East Carver Street is closed from North Roxboro Street to Meriwether Drive while homicide officers investigate.
Durham shootings up in 2024
As of Dec. 14, a reported 215 people had been shot this year in Durham. That was up from 198 people shot by the same time last year but down from 232 the year before that.
More people shot this year have survived, police statistics show.
Thirty-two people shot this year have died, compared to 39 and 38 people who were fatally shot by the same time in the two prior years.
