Double shooting in Raleigh on Tuesday was a murder-suicide, police now say

Police said Wednesday a second person has died in what they described as a murder-suicide in northeast Raleigh on Tuesday.

Police were called to the 2900 block of Sumner Boulevard about 3 p.m. after the reported shooting, according to a news release.

Investigators think it stemmed from a domestic violence situation, because the two people were acquainted.

“The adult male found deceased at the scene shot the adult female before taking his own life,” a follow-up news release stated. The woman died at the hospital.

The News & Observer has asked the Raleigh Police Department for additional public information about the shooting in order to provide a fuller report.

The deaths mark at least the fifth murder-suicide in the Triangle area in 2025.

Anyone facing domestic violence is encouraged to call the National Domestic Violence Hotline at 1-800-799-SAFE or 911 for immediate assistance.
