Carrboro police charge man with child sex crimes. Records show cases in other counties.
A Carrboro man convicted of child sex offenses last year has been charged in two more counties with sexual offenses involving a child, police say.
Edwin Silva-Badillo, 22, was charged on May 21 in Orange County with several felonies, including three counts of statutory rape of a child under 15 years old, three counts of indecent liberties with a child, a statutory sexual offense, and three counts of soliciting a child using a computer, Carrboro police said in a news release Thursday.
Silva-Badillo is being held without bail in the Chatham County jail.
He is also charged in Chatham County with three counts of kidnapping and three counts of human trafficking of a child victim, court records show. In that case, Silva-Badillo is accused of kidnapping his victim, who was under 16, from her parent’s house in March and forcing her into sexual servitude, an arrest record shows.
Last year, Silva-Badillo pleaded guilty in Alamance County to two counts of indecent liberties with a minor. Statutory rape of a child charges were dismissed as part of a plea agreement, court records show.
He received a suspended jail sentence and probation in that case, and was required to register with the state as a sex offender, police said. Court records show he was charged in April with violating his probation.
More charges after Carrboro fight
Carrboro police learned about the alleged sexual contact between Silva-Badillo and a child in Carrboro from the Chatham County Sheriff’s Office, the news release says. Police said the sexual contact happened in several incidents reported in March and April.
Silva-Badillo is scheduled to appear June 9 in Orange County Superior Court, and he also is scheduled to appear in July in Chatham County.
Court records show he pleaded guilty in February to misdemeanor charges of being intoxicated and disruptive and resisting a public officer related to a September fight at the Collins Crossing apartment complex in Carrboro.
Silva-Badillo’s plea deal required him to get a substance abuse assessment and complete treatment, Orange County District Attorney Jeff Nieman said. His sentence is still pending in that case, because Silva-Badillo had not completed treatment when he was arrested in April, Nieman said.
