The woman accused of shooting two attorneys outside the Wake County courthouse on Friday will be held without bail as she faces two counts of attempted murder, a judge said Tuesday.

Gwendolyn White, 57, appeared in court Tuesday morning but did not speak as Judge Rashad Hauter read out her two charges, each of which he said could yield a maximum punishment of nearly 33 years.

White’s appearance on Tuesday was just a block from the old Wake County courthouse where she went Friday morning to request a new hearing for a petition she filed in 2022. That case stemmed from her years-long request for body camera footage from the Rolesville Police Department regarding a March 2021 altercation with a neighbor at home, The News & Observer previously reported.

Police said she became “belligerent” during the hearing Friday morning and left the courthouse before returning in her car, walking up to the building and shooting attorneys Mary Katherine Harris and Jeffrey Whitley, two Fox Rothschild attorneys representing Rolesville police in the case.

The attorneys are expected to survive their injuries, Raleigh police said Saturday.

The courtroom was largely empty beside public defenders, security and media on Tuesday. Hauter set no bail for White and agreed to assign her a court-appointed attorney. The next hearing in the case is set for June 15.
