After Cary High lockdown lifted, 2 juveniles charged with firing gun in restroom

Two juveniles face charges for firing a single round of a gun in a Cary High School bathroom Wednesday, prompting the school to be locked down a little over an hour, police said.

Cary Police said Wednesday night, hours after the lockdown had been lifted, that investigators had filed a juvenile petition against the unnamed juveniles for their role in the incident.

Police did not say what charges the teens will face and directed questions to the Wake County District Attorney’s Office, who will take the case moving forward.

Police also did not say whether the juveniles were in custody or were students at the school.

Earlier Wednesday, police said the school on Walnut Street was put on a Code Red lockdown at 11:50 a.m. after someone reported the sound of a gunshot inside the school. Code Red is the highest security alert at a school.

The lockdown was lifted at 1:08 p.m., according to a message shared with Cary High School parents from the principal.

No one was injured and all students were safe, the school told Cary High parents following the lockdown.

A 14-year-old student was being questioned in the case, reported ABC 11, The News & Observer’s news partner.

Students were dismissed at the regular time, according to Cary High School officials.
