Heating issues amid cold snap lead some Wake County schools to dismiss students early
Several Wake County public schools dismissed students early Tuesday after encountering heating issues during this week’s cold snap, school officials said.
Seven schools sent students home because their heating systems weren’t operating at full capacity, according to a Wake County Public School System press release.
Those schools were:
- Green Elementary School
- Brooks Elementary School
- Middle Creek Elementary School
- Wake Stem Early College
- Lake Myra Elementary School
- Dillard Drive Elementary School
- Carpenter Elementary School
Carpenter Elementary School dismissed students at 11:45 a.m., while the six other schools sent students home at 10:45 a.m, school officials said.
Three Wake County public schools faced early dismissals on Monday, with West Lake Elementary School and Carroll and Oberlin middle schools releasing early because of heating problems. This summer, the school system saw faulty air conditioning units send students home on several occasions, The News & Observer previously reported.
Temperatures are predicted to peak at 43 degrees Tuesday and 47 degrees Wednesday in Raleigh.
